I would love to get this out as a best bet, but I just don’t like to lay this kind of price. But, the M-U-T-S are sending their over-rated ‘local’ product Steven Matz (0-3, 8.20 ERA) to the mound and he is 2-4 with a 5.48 ERA in 11 career games against the Phillies.
The former ‘Wiz-Kids’ will send Aaron Nola (1-1, 2.79) to the hill and he is 7-1 with a 3.13 ERA in 13 career starts against the Mets. After getting Chip’s Triple-play of MLB Best Bets…play Philadelphia!
The Indians have absolutely, positively owned the Tigers in recent years and there’s no reason to jump ship as they hand the ball to their ace Shane Bieber, who remains an undervalued commodity in my opinion, on Saturday night.
Cleveland throttled Detroit in the opener of this series last night and it is well positioned to turn the trick again on Saturday with Bieber on the mound. All he’s done this season is post a 1.63 ERA and 0.76 WHIP while recording a 43:5 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 27 2/3 innings of work.
Spencer Turnbull has been effective for the Tigers, going 2-0 with a 2.00 ERA and 1.00 WHIP in 18 innings pitched but I don’t believe those numbers are sustainable.
Keep in mind, he posted comparable strikeouts and walks per nine innings last year but went 3-17 with a 4.61 ERA and 1.44 WHIP. Expect some regression against the Indians on Saturday.
Take Cleveland (8*).
Ryan Yarbrough is a great young talent for the Tampa Bay Rays. He is 27-14 with a 4.06 ERA and 1.15 WHIP in his 3 years in the big leagues.
Yarbrough is 1-1 with a 3.86 ERA and 1.23 WHIP in 3 lifetime starts against Toronto as well. I like him over Chase Anderson tonight.
The Rays are 6-1 in their last 7 games overall and very hot at the plate, scoring at least 4 runs now in 8 consecutive games coming in. They should have no problem getting to Anderson today.
The Blue Jays are 9-25 in their last 34 home games off a win.
Take Tampa Bay.
The Texas Rangers have won five of their last six coming into this series with Colorado and are playing well. Now they send ace Lance Lynn to the mound to continue their momentum.
Lynn is 2-0 with a 1.16 ERA and 0.943 WHIP in four starts this season. He has a whopping 30 K’s in 23 1/3 innings with only 10 hits allowed. Lynn is also 3-2 with a 2.42 ERA and 1.138 WHIP in eight career starts against Colorado.
Bet the Rangers Friday.
The Houston Astros just get right against the Seattle Mariners time and time again.
The Astros are 38-13 in their last 51 meetings with the Mariners. Better yet, Houston is 17-1 in its last 18 meetings with Seattle with 13 of those wins coming by two runs or more.
That’s why I’ll side with the Astros on the Run Line today instead of laying the big price on the money line.
Give me the Astros.
